Who is Madonna?

About-Madonna

One of the most iconic superstars in the world and nicknamed the Queen of Pop, Madonna was born in 1958 in Michigan. She is a singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman who’s best known for hits such as Holiday, Material Girl, Like A Prayer, Like A Virgin, Vogue, Ray of Light, and Papa Don’t Preach. She has been hugely influential to other artists and has sparked a particular following in the LGBTQ community, in part because of her artistic and iconic sense of fashion but also because of her fight against AIDS and continuously speaking out against homophobia. Her most famous film role was when she played the title role in Evita, although she has also appeared in movies including Desperately Seeking Susan.

How did Madonna get famous?

Madonna

As a child and teenager, Madonna studied dance and piano, but her career in music began when she dropped out of college in 1978 to move to New York City. She worked as a backup dancer before forming a number of different bands and eventually signing to Sire Records. Her first singles Everybody and Burning Up were club hits, but she went global with the release of her second album, Like A Virgin, in November 1984. In the following year she began her first concert tour, and her 1986 album True Blue propelled her to even greater heights. Since then, Madonna has only gone from strength to strength.

She won BRIT awards for an international female solo artist in 2001 and 2006, and a Golden Globe for best actress for starring in Evita in 1997.
